“The Sun Still Rises”

I remember waking up one morning, years ago, with the weight of the world pressing on my chest. Bills unpaid, relationships strained, my body aching in places I didn’t know could ache. I sat on the porch with my coffee—black, no sugar, just like life sometimes—and watched the sun climb over the trees.

And that’s when it hit me.

The sun didn’t ask me how I was doing. It didn’t wait for my permission to shine. It just rose. Faithful. Steady. Like the mercies of God, new every morning.

You see, son, we spend so much time chasing tomorrow, worrying about what’s next, that we forget the holiness of today. Scripture says, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Not tomorrow. Not next week. This day.

I’ve learned that joy isn’t something you stumble into—it’s something you choose. You choose it when you thank God for breath in your lungs. You choose it when you smile at a stranger, when you forgive someone who doesn’t deserve it, when you sit still long enough to hear the birds sing.

The world will tell you to hustle, to grind, to never stop moving. But Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Rest isn’t laziness—it’s trust. It’s saying, “Lord, I know You’ve got this, so I’m going to enjoy the gift You’ve given me today.”

So take your time. Watch the clouds. Laugh with someone. Eat something sweet. Pray with your eyes open. And when the sun sets, thank God for one more day lived well.

Because the sun will rise again tomorrow. But today? Today is yours.
